from the archives: the amputease
one of the best bandnames ever… ripped this a while ago and am just now getting around to uploading it. i don’t remember much about the amputease except the EF tapes/cock ESP figurehead, emil hagstrom, was one of the main culprits in the project. “sick jazz” is about the most apt descriptoin of this tape i can think of. lots of sax skronk and junkyard clang with bits and pieces of analog treachery thrown in. i’ll tell you what it really reminds me of is some andrew coltrane’s stuff, esp. as cold turkey. dig in on this one.
dug up some new boxes of tapes recently, unearthed some pretty nice stuff from my past (including a couple projects i totally forgot about i.e. icehaus), so expect some of that damage on DSQ soon. also found some other great tapes on other labels including the first ever pluxus release – a tape on the great swedish label, slowball (also found a ‘best of phlegm’ tape which was jonas svenious, who ran slowball, band… i think the ‘best of’ was going to be on cactus gum but the label died before it came out. not sure. haven’t talked to jonas in 12 years!). found some cool bobby j stuff, too. todd ledford was a god. between him & kevin rivard, i dunno who i wish i could get in touch with more. ha!
