from the archives: loretta & denise mongrell

April 4, 2009

this sort of continues the theme from the bingo trappers post from last week.  so, the aforementioned tinca’s label, luveable nurse, had a handful of great releases.  i’m not sure how many things she put out, honestly (i’m sure wim/morc knows!), but the three tapes i’ve got are all fantastic.  the best of the bunch is bingo trappers’ “girliefood,” which was a mini masterpiece of cassettedom of the mid-90s.  i need to find my copy.  but this little guy is a real gem, too.  i believe that loretta & denise mongrell was either the solo project of tinca or a duo project with someone else.  i could be totally wrong, too, because i also vaguely remember her telling me about a project called 32 beans which might have been her solo project (wim, help?  wim is the foremost expert on all things dutch/belgian when it comes to hometaping.  heh!).

11 songs is a lot of fun.  the songs are short & sweet, some of them have a late 60s/early 70s feeling to them.  love the heavy doses of reverb, especially on the vocals.  “daryl” is especially awesome.  anyway, loretta & denise mongrell… ENJOY.

    heh, ‘expert’? 🙂

i think luveable nurse did something like 10 releases in total – don’t have all of them though – there were at least 3 bingo trappers tapes/cdrs, 1 mongrell cdr, 1 john adams whipple tape, and a comp 7″ (co-released by morc 🙂 ) – but this list is definately not complete

i think loretta and denise mongrell was tinca + one of the other members of what later would be the band mongrell. the band did one cdr on luveable nurse, and a track on the already mentioned 7″ + a track on a shaggs tribute cd.

one of tinca and waldemar (of bingo trappers) daughters is actually loretta, but i dont think she was born when this album was recorded 🙂

i knew you’d have the skinny on this stuff. 🙂

the other luveable nurse tape i have is by SOUP’S ON. i think it was possibly one of the other bingo trappers’ sideprojects? something like that? maybe not. it’s good, though.
