from the archives: loretta & denise mongrell
this sort of continues the theme from the bingo trappers post from last week. so, the aforementioned tinca’s label, luveable nurse, had a handful of great releases. i’m not sure how many things she put out, honestly (i’m sure wim/morc knows!), but the three tapes i’ve got are all fantastic. the best of the bunch is bingo trappers’ “girliefood,” which was a mini masterpiece of cassettedom of the mid-90s. i need to find my copy. but this little guy is a real gem, too. i believe that loretta & denise mongrell was either the solo project of tinca or a duo project with someone else. i could be totally wrong, too, because i also vaguely remember her telling me about a project called 32 beans which might have been her solo project (wim, help? wim is the foremost expert on all things dutch/belgian when it comes to hometaping. heh!).
11 songs is a lot of fun. the songs are short & sweet, some of them have a late 60s/early 70s feeling to them. love the heavy doses of reverb, especially on the vocals. “daryl” is especially awesome. anyway, loretta & denise mongrell… ENJOY.
