whiskey you’re the devil: charlie mcalister
charlie mccalister should be a total legend of american folk music. i’m talking, dude should be in history books 50 years from now and people should be teaching about him in music appreciation courses far & wide. i’m not joking. there is nobody out there who, over the past 15 years, has done anything in the same realm with the same ferocity and just downright fucking awesomeness as he has. backwoods, loner folk & country jams with sardonic wit, caustic humor, and and a good, healthy dose of tongue-in-cheek sarcasm – he’s a modern day bard from the depths of the american south. mississippi luau, his LP on catsup plate, is essential listening (if anyone has a good rip of the vinyl, get in touch).
this song is a quick romp that features the help of caleb fraid and others. it is such a great, catchy song with one of the best lines ever… shout it loud, shout it proud: TO HELL WITH PINOCCHIO I AIN’T NO LIAR! i dunno where charlie is these days, but i sure as hell wish i was still in touch with him.
