from the archives: vote robot
so vote robots first, self-titled tape didn’t give much of an indication as to where this kelowna duo would head in later years, but it’s still a pretty solid document all the same.
originally released on vegasp, it’s short & sweet. it’s more of a bedroom downer vibe than their weirdo glitchcityness that would come later. there’s a lot more in common here with kevin rivard’s old projects of the mid/late 90s like corvalis and calicos & tortoiseshells. there’s hints of casio throughout, but what you’ll quickly realize is that this is very much a guitar-based album. you don’t hear a lot of august’s syrupy, french paddleboat-style electronics. there are glimpses, to be sure, but it really sounds much more like what came before it than what came after.
all that being said, i fucking love vote robot.
